Pop quiz hot shot! What’s warm, flakey, plump and airy, filled with butter and tastes great with jam? No, to me… A croissant! Mark it on your calendars boys and girls, on May 3rd, Montreal will be celebrating the iconic staple of French baking, the croissant!

This year will be the third edition of the Fête du Croissant first started by Plateau pastry chef Franck Dury-Pavet (of Fous Desserts) to personally stand in revolt against the mass produced, machine-made variety, packed in transparent clamshell boxes with push-button, un-detatchable latches that never come apart that I always end up ripping and slicing a part of my fingers.

These hand-rolled “au nature – plain” croissants made my local artisanal bakers will be available at 32 different bakeries around the greater Montreal region. The majority of participating bakeries will be in Montreal, but some as far as Granby, Quebec City and even La Pocatiere will be offering locals these buttery delights for only a dollar!
